Our Vision

As an ensemble committed to arts exploration and integrated learning experiences, we are courageous learners, critical thinkers, and creators who shape the world around us.

Welcome to the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Full Day! We are a renowned arts-focused magnet school named "Best Magnet School" by Hartford Magazine. Located in the historic Colt Gateway Complex in Hartford, Connecticut—right under the iconic blue dome visible from Interstate 91—we are a comprehensive high school with a unique and truly one-of-a-kind arts program.

Our Approach

We believe in starting high school with a strong foundation—academically, artistically, and social-emotionally—through our classes and programming as we build ensemble. We pride ourselves on purposeful work in establishing our special ensemble rooted in clear roles, collaboration, commitment, communication, vulnerability, practice, and joy.

Rigorous Academics Meets the Arts

We offer a variety of rigorous classes and integrated learning experiences, including numerous dual enrollment options such as Early College Experience (ECE) classes, as well as specialized art classes in visual arts, music, dance, creative writing, media arts, and theater.   Students have a number of opportunities to showcase their learning and work to public audiences.  

Memorable Educational Experiences

Our students have unforgettable educational experiences where they integrate their academic and arts skills into the greater community, including:

• Being published in The New York Times
• Working with the CT Attorney General's Office on advocacy and mental health initiatives
• Participating in Looking In Theater—our very own traveling social justice theater company where students write, produce, and perform for schools across Connecticut
• Performing at the Governor's Holiday Open House
• Contributing to the Eco-Digital Storytelling Project, a collaboration between our Environmental Science and ECE Digital Media students with UCONN Storrs Campus
